T.R.I.P. Day of Service in Little Haiti & Miami Gardens
May 12 - 15, 2011

Thank you for registering with T.R.I.P. As a volunteer, you have agreed to participate in our upcoming Day of Service projects in Little Haiti and/or Miami Gardens. We’ll be working with the Little Haiti Neighborhood Enhancement Team and the City of Miami Gardens to help revitalize low-income, African-American communities.

Volunteer Orientation – Thursday, May 12, 2011
All registered volunteers are asked to attend the Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, May 12 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Betty T. Ferguson Community Center (3000 N.W. 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33169). This orientation allows individuals to meet other volunteers like themselves and mingle with city officials and local residents. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and special giveaway item. Light refreshments and beverages will also be served.

Little Haiti Day of Service – Friday, May 13, 2011
T.R.I.P. volunteers will participate in the Little Haiti Community Mural Project. This multi-phase outdoor mural project will be implemented over a 24-month period and includes (5) walls within the Little Haiti Soccer Park. The mural will cover 10,000 square feet, making it the largest mural in the City of Miami. The mural project will provide opportunities for volunteers, businesses, and community-based organizations to participate in painting the mural. No special skills are required. Research shows that community-led mural projects have significant benefits, including raising community awareness, education, skills development, job creation and cultural expression.

Volunteer Check-in: 8:00 a.m.
Location: Little Haiti Soccer Park

6301 N.E. 2nd Avenue
Miami, FL 33137
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. (Complimentary for T.R.I.P. volunteers)
Project Ends: 3:30 p.m.

Miami Gardens Day of Service – Saturday, May 14, 2011
The City of Miami Gardens has teamed up with T.R.I.P. to repurpose an abandoned lot into a community park in the Vista Verde neighborhood. This project aligns with the city's Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful Program. Volunteers will have the opportunity to paint, garden, clean up the surrounding neighborhood, install equipment and much more! No special skills or experience are required. Repurposing abandoned lots into community parks helps to encourage social networking among residents and create a safe and recreational area for children, families and people of all ages.

Volunteer Check-in: 7:30 a.m.
Location: Universal Truth Center

21310 N.W. 37th Avenue
Miami Gardens, Florida 33056
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. (Complimentary for T.R.I.P. volunteers)
Project Ends: 3:30 p.m.
